A Facebook vulnerability allows access to images of 6.8 million users

Facebook announced on its own blog on Friday that its team has discovered a software vulnerability that allows third-party applications to access user images that sign in to their applications through the social platform, where access has exceeded the limit for images that third-party applications may apply once the platform data is approved Which includes, in normal mode, the images published by the user on the main page only; to include a number of other images, such as those shared in the shopping platforms contained in the story window in his profile.

Facebook reported that the number of users whose images were affected by the vulnerability was 6.8 million, while the registration process to access their Facebook accounts for more than 1500 applications was built by 876 developers, while pointing to its work to launch software tools next week that will help developers to see users Their applications affected by the problem and work to scan their images, and at the same time to alert users of the platform who have experienced the problem through notifications via Facebook to make sure through them what they were affected by the applications included in the list, which will be explained by Facebook via the notice and have used in the past.

The company apologized for the error and regretted how long users' images were available for third-party applications under the impact of the vulnerability that lasted from 13 to 25 September 2018.
